KPC employs approximately 3,800 people including about 13 expatriates. KPC gives priority to the recruitment and training of local people through its apprenticeship training scheme.
Various training and development programs are provided to improve and maintain competency levels of all KPC employees. Special focus is given to skills transfer, staff development, front line leadership training and preparation of the talent pool to fill future vacancies.
KPC gives preference in employment opportunities to candidates from the local area of Sangatta and the East Kutai Regency provided applicants have the skills, qualifications and potential to either perform the job or to undergo training for the job. Over 74% of the workforce have a local Sangatta point of hire and over 87% have been hired from within the province of East Kalimantan. Over 68% of the workforce is under 40 years of age and over 87% has attended senior high school. The expatriate workforce predominantly originates from Australia.
At PT Kaltim Prima Coal five different unions cover most of the workforce and the conduct of Industrial Relations represent a model for a harmonious multi-union workplace within the Indonesian mining industry.
