KPC Won 4 Awards in Indonesian Green Awards

PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) won four awards in the 5th Indonesia Green Award (IGA) 2014, in Jakarta, on June 18th, 2014. The award was given by La Tofi School of CSR and supported by the Ministry of Forestry and the Ministry of Industry of Republic of Indonesia.

The La Tofi School of CSR explained, IGA dedicated the award to the parties who have made extraordinary efforts through various programs to save the earth.

The award was given by the Minister of Forestry, Zulkifli Hasan, and accepted by KPC Chief Operating Officer (COO) R. Utoro, with Emmanuel Manege, HSES GM, Gunawan Muhammad and Louise G. Pessireron, Manager of Project Management and Evaluation.

The four awards are on the field of water resources conservation, development and utilization of new and renewable energy, development of integrated waste management and biodiversity protection. R. Utoro, accompanied by Gunawan Muhammad, said that the four awards awarded to KPC was one of the proofs of how big the commitment is by the company of the company in managing environmental impacts of mining operations. This was one of the manifestations of Good Mining Practice.

In terms of water resources conservation, KPC has long supported water resources conservation in a systematic way and has given positive impacts on the availability of ground water for the community. While in the field of energy, KPC has worked on energy efficiency and initiated to develop new and renewable energy, as an attempt to substitute fossil energy. Another initiative is to maintain biodiversity in mine surroundings. The initiative aims at conserving sea and land ecosystem. This activity was successfully able to maintain nature cycle of life.

The fourth innovation, which was appreciated by the IGA judges, is innovation in waste treatment systems, both hazardous waste and general waste. In this case, the company's effort to empower communities to utilize general waste from the company and residential neighborhood is included.

R. Utoro said that the four awards received by KPC were realization of hard work and cooperation of all employees and surrounding communities. He, therefore, thanked for their participation and support so that the application of good mining practice at KPC received wide recognition in various domestic and international institutions.
