KPC Awarded with Aditama Trophy for Mining Safety

Environmental Management Received Aditama Award Certificate

OKTOBER 2015 - PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) was again bestowed with the highest award of Aditama Trophy for Mining Safety from The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Republic of Indonesia. Aside from the Aditama Trophy for Safety, KPC also received Aditama Award Certificate for Mining Environmental Management.

These trophy and certificate were awarded as a form of appreciation from the government of Indonesia for 2014 KPC’s occupational safety and environmental management performance. The awards were handed over by Director General of Mineral and Coal, Bambang Gatot Ariyono, and received by Chief Operating Officer (COO) KPC, Muhammad Rudy on Thursday, 17 September 2015 at Bidakara Building, Jakarta.

Mining Safety Trophy is the highest award for Indonesia’s mining companies safety performance. The receiver of this trophy was chosen from the best company which already a receiver of Aditama gold certificate. This time, KPC was awarded the trophy in category of company managing Coal Work Mining Contract (PKP2B and KK).

KPC statistical data showed that throughout 2014, safety incident frequency rate (FR) was recorded at 0.13 with incident severity (SR) of 6. This FR and SR score was considered on of the best among PKP2B and KK companies.

Aside of that, in the environmental sector, scoring criteria used include administrative aspects, top soil management, erosion and sediment control, seeds nursery, reclamation and vegetation, supporting infrastructure and environmental monitoring.

The award for Safety and Environmental Management in Mineral and Coal is a routine activity held by Directorate General of Mineral and Coal.

Mining Safety Management Award has been held since 1992, while Mining Environmental Management Award was initiated in 2004.

From press release published by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said that the objective of this award is as an appreciation to further motivate Mining Technical Chiefs to aim the highest standard in Safety and Environmental Management in Mineral and Coal Mining.

Release yang dikeluarkan Kementerian ESDM menyampaikan tujuan pemberian penghargaan tersebut adalah sebagai pendorong serta pemberi motivasi kepada para Kepala Teknik Tambang (KTT) untuk dapat mencapai prestasi setinggi-tingginya dalam pengelolaan keselamatan dan lingkungan pertambangan mineral dan batubara.

Scoring for this award involved mining inspectors and experts from Department of Occupational Health and Safety, Faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia, Center for Environmental Studies University of Indonesia, Center for Mining Environment Research Bandung Institute of Technology, Faculty of Forestry Bogor Institute of Agriculture, Research Center for Environmental Studies Bogor Institute of Agriculture, Mining Reclamation Research Center Bogor Institute of Agriculture, and many more.
