PLN Agrees to Purchase Electricity Excess Power from KPCalmost 2 years
East Kutai Regent Ismunandar said he was happy with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of the electricity excess power purchasing between PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) and PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN). The electricity purchased from KPC excess power could be enjoyed by the community, starting in August 2017.
"On behalf East Kutai Regional Government, I express my gratitude. This day is a new history with the presence of excess electric power from KPC. It will increase KPC achievement in East Kutai, "said Ismunandar in the MoU signing ceremony, at Power Plant Tanjung Bara, Sangatta, Tuesday (14/3).
Furthermore, the electricity which will be distributed to the community, according to the Regent, will be prioritized to communities in Sangatta Utara and Sangatta Selatan. "We will hold the electricity to Bukit Pelangi area. We want to prioritize communities of Sangatta Utara and Sangatta Selatan, which does not have electricity yet, "said Ismunandar.
General Manager Coal Processing and Handling Division (CPHD) Poltak Sinaga said excess electricity power owned by KPC is from overcapacity of Power Plant 3x18 Mega Watt (MW). The Power Plant is currently being finalized by PT Citra Perdana Kusuma (CKP). "From the Power Plant we built, there is a potential excess power of 18MW. This is what we will sell to PLN, "said Poltak.
In addition to completing the construction of the Power Plant 3X18MW, KPC and CKP are building a 70kV transmission lines, ranging from Power Plant Tanjung Bara to the substation in the Soewandi road, as far as five kilometers. "Substation has been completed. Later excess power to PLN will be taken from the substation. In August 2017, We want all devices can deliver excess power on a regular basis according to the agreement between KPC and PLN, "said Poltak.
General Manager PLN Region Kaltim-Kaltara (Kaltimra) Rustam Majid said the injection of a power of 18MW from KPC, will strengthen PLN electricity system in Sangatta region. Rustam admitted, the current peak load in Sangatta reach 18MW, while there are still many household that does not have any electricity. "I think this MoU is a positive thing. It will strengthen PLN electricity system in Sangatta region, "said Rustam.
Chief Operating Officer (COO) KPC Muhammad Rudy expecting, the electricity cooperation between KPC and PLN, hopefully can improve public electricity services. "In the end, we expect the welfare of the community quickly realized according to East Kutai Regent expectations," said Rudy.
Rudy added, KPC will continue to increase the company's value added to the community. "We continue to contribute to the society significantly, to enable the rapid economic growth," added Rudy. (*)
